Rule 14 covers ‘Courting’ in the pub arena, how to behave if the opportunity to ‘get off’ with someone arises at your local. Subsection 14.3 deals with ‘Petting’ and is discussed below.
14.3 Petting
Copping off with someone in your local pub probably sounds like it would make for a memorable evening and, for that matter, it probably does. However it is not without its risks. I’m not saying don’t do it, I’m just saying there’s a reason why there are several dozen photos of people in the throes of a drunken snog pinned up behind the bar. That reason is simply this, ritual public humiliation is considered funny in the local pub environment. What is more, that photo will stay there. Forever. The pub could change hands several times, the photo will remain. In thirty years time you will return to the pub ‘for old time’s sake’ with your offspring in tow and there, pinned to the wall outside the gents, will be a framed collage of fading old photos with your gurning mug taking pride of place. And when your son/daughter asks you ‘who’s the desperate slapper licking your face dad?’ you will be obliged to confess ‘I’ve no idea,’ or possibly ‘that’s your mother.’
